The Lincoln Center

Built in the 60s, the Lincoln Center was built on what was once the site of a group of tenements. Right after its completion, the centre’s design was criticised for being too conservative and having poor acoustics. However, it later received a much needed makeover that began in 2009 and concluded in 2010. For those who love music and dance performances, the Lincoln Center features a large number of these every night and is sure to fascinate even the most jaded guests.

Central Park

Central Park covers an 843-acre space in central Manhattan and was completed in the 70s, with its construction having begun in the 60s on a marshy section of the city. It was designed to be a relaxation spot for New Yorkers of all races and walks of life and today, its lush lawns, flowering gardens, and wooded paths provide the serenity that the city’s inhabitants cherish. It has loads of free outdoor concerts, which are mainly performed at the Great Lawn, and for those who love wild animals, the Central Park Wildlife Center offers quite a number of these. Some other recommended stops at the park include the Shakespeare Garden, which has wonderful paintings and skyline views, and the Bethesda Fountain, where one can enjoy some lunch or rent a rowboat.

Things to do in New York City

Enjoy some outdoor pools

New York can at times be stiflingly-hot during summer, and what better way to cool off than to do some open-air swimming. The city has dozens of public outdoor pools usually open during summer, but closed from around Labour Day. The network of pools spans across the city’s five boroughs, with the swimming-pools varying in both size and popularity.(image by Viking Pools)
